My kids got these packs of crayons at the santa clause parade. they must of had them left over from sending their adjusters to school. Laughing They had a state farm bear walking up and down and the people beside me had this dog that went besurk every time it came near..I guess its true they can sense evil. I wish I had my camera ready for that one.

long ago i asked for an inexpensive paint i can do myself in my garage with a HVLP. i primed it with duplicolor high build primer/surfacer, then their sealer. then sprayed it with ppg shopline........all together including the clear the PPG system was about 300 bucks. it turned out great although the color i used was semitransparent and took a lil more layering of basecoat than expected. i just need to wetsand it and buff it now- thanks for the recomendation-

Total Loss Vs Repair Fri, 02 April 2004 23:04 Go to previous messageGo to next message
I had an accident with my Audi 90S which caused my transmission to go useless. I am trying to get a rebuild transmission. Insurance company apprisal says that change the transmission with a used one (2400$ value) and a rebuilt one will cost me 4500$ . The car's blue book value is Max:6200 and Min: 3100. I had invested some money recently changing timnig belt etc. I would like to know what are my rights for getting the parts I want. If insurance company gets stiff then what are the options to talk them out. (and asap as without car life is hell Sad )
Thanks for any advice !

Thanks,

KVD

2000 Camry Wed, 20 October 2004 04:00 Go to previous messageGo to next message
I own a 2000 Camry LE and in 4 1/2 years I never had a problem with it. One week ago it shut down on me. I had it towed to a local dealer and it turned out to be that the water pump seized which caused the timing belt to shred. It was covered in full under the powertrain warranty. Only 2 days later the car shuts down on me again. I have it towed to the same dealership. It turns they needed 3 1/2 hours to diagnose that a crank shaft position sensor was bad and the total job came to $650.00 of which $81.00 was for the part. Do you think the dealership may have caused a problem with the crank shaft position center by not properly installing the timing belt or are the 2 problems totally unrelated? I just find it odd that the car broke down 2 days after the timing belt problem occurred and that the timing belt hooks up to the crank shaft. However, I do not want to go back to the dealership and complain of faulty workmanship if the 2 problems have no bearing on each other. Thanks

Can anyone from CCC confirm or deny the rumors that Summit Software may be purchased by them.

A couple of customers are hoping that if a large company like CCC buys the product, they claim that it might fix there software and/or refund issues and would like to know for sure.

I read this article in my local newspaper last night. I hope It makes you laugh, like it did me. This is a true story. I'm going to condense the story abit,so it won't be as long as the whole article. I'm going to use the word bandit instead of the name of this person.

Store clerk sued by bandit he shot.

A convicted bandit has filed a lawsuit against the clerk who shot him as he was holding up a convenience store.

The bandit was wounded as he fled from the store. The clerk who shot the bandit told investigators the bandit claimed he had a gun in his jacket before demanding money from the cash register.

The clerk fired five gunshots as the bandit fled with the cash. Two bullets struck the robber's back and side.

The bandit was arrested in a home a few minutes after the holdup.

The bandit pleaded guilty to robbery and was sentenced to four years in prison.

In the bandits lawsuit---filed recently in the court, the bandit alleged "there was no need for the use of deadly force" when the clerk fired the gunshots. The bandit claimed his victim acted maliciously ans sadistically, and fired the gun with the intent to inflict pain.....well duh Rolling Eyes

The bandit--who seeks unspecified damage's said the shooting had prevented him from transacting his business....I guess he means more robbing Razz

The robber also said that he continued to suffer nightmares as the result of this assault upon his life.

The court found no wrong doing in what the clerk did defending himself.

This person was convicted of robbing a pizza restaurant in 1991, and also has two prior convictions for burglary.

End of article.

This is just about as crazy as McDonald's being sued for making people fat.

I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did. Atleast no one was seriously injured.

Hope all have a great day.....It's Friday Smile

Tim

A shepherd was herding his flock in a remote pasture when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced out of the dust cloud towards him. The driver, a young man in a Broni suit, Gucci shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses and YSL tie, leaned out the window and asked the shepherd, "If I tell you exactly how many sheep you have in your flock, will you give me one?"

The shepherd looked at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looked at his peacefully-grazing flock and calmly answered, "Sure."

The yuppie parked his car, whipped out his IBM Thinkpad and connected it to a cell phone, then he surfed to a NASA page on the internet where he called up a GPS satellite navigation system, scanned the area, and then opened up a database and an Excel spreadsheet with complex formulas. He sent an email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, received a response. Finally, he prints out a 130 page report on his miniaturized printer then turns to the shepherd and says, "You have exactly 1586 sheep".

"That is correct; take one of the sheep" said the shepherd.

He watches the young man select one of the animals and bundle it into his car.

Then the shepherd says: "If I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my animal?"

"OK, why not," answered the young man.

"Clearly, you are a CONSULTANT", said the shepherd.

"That's correct," says the yuppie. "How did you know?"

"You turned up here although nobody called you. You want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked, and you don't know BEANS about my business. Now, GIVE ME BACK MY DOG!"

With the lack of consistant repair work throughout the U.S., there is now no need for additional techs!

Besides, why would anyone want to get into this industry when the need for home remodeling contractors increased 30%.

I'm actually thinking of going back to my old part time job...I circumsize elephants. The pay's not great...but the tips are big!!!

I've an announcement I'd like to make, but first...

...my my, things certainly look different around the ol' ABOL homestead, yes? Bigger, zoomier, more buttons and gimcracks to play with, I like it.

But right now I've other things on my mind, first I'd like to doff my hat in this citadel and pay my respects. For you see, I've always been a 'Sneed Hearn' yet it was right here at this URL where Sneed and his sometimes wacky irrelevance was granted national exposure to a wider audience. Funny how things sometimes work out, but ABOL served as a vessel for meeting new people, forming new relationships, a launch point and springboard for new career vistas and directions.

ABOL has evolved as indeed Sneed has quickly evolved and matured as well. He still has a penchant for pointing out faults and mocking institutions that are held high by a majority (don't get me started on NASCAR), but nowadays Sneed's tomes and memes have taken on a serious tone of demeanor.

Yes, it all happened right here, nor will I ever forget this fact. I'm also not shy about passing out accolades to those that deserve them, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bob Richards and his staff for providing such a venue for opinionated folks everywhere.

And now, back to the announcement

After years of threatening to do so, Sneed Hearn now has his VERY OWN PERSONAL WEBSITE!! Yes, you read that right, 'Club Sneed' is now broadcasting in full living color, beamed right into the comfort of your own home or workplace!

"So what in heck is Club Sneed?" you're asking and the answer is "I really don't know what it is!" Most likely it can be considered an internet journal, a place to hold my whims, essays, opinion pieces and photos that others can access. "Sneed's Screeds" dwells more on the aspects of my non-bodyshop life, "Sneed's Streamline Garage" shows a few peeks at my long time career as a collision repairman.

SSG is also the place to witness helpless cars being pitifully mended by quacks who call themselves experts AS IT HAPPENS. And in a media sea that offers little to no alternative viewpoints from a working craftsman, this department will also serve as providing a counterbalance to the growing notion that bodymen are overpaid serfs whom are not worthy of their hard won skills.

Then there's "How I Learned to Love Sneed Hearn" which gives the reader an intimate look at the person behind Sneed, the man who actually pens this stuff.

In time, as a means to make Club Sneed a bit more dynamic, I'd like to add a performing 'stage' feature in order to add my immediate opinions along with inviting guests to contribute their own thoughts. Doesn't have to be collision industry related, and yes, the stage will be uncensored.

That's it, the invitation has been whipped out, it's now up to YOU to make good on that pass for admittance. Let your curiosity lead you to www.sneedco.com and have a look around. And if you're really not very careful, you might wind up staying within Club Sneed much longer than you thought.

Sneed

Read this on another forum

What a world? (country NSW)... On Thursday, 24 January 2002, Derek Guille

broadcast this story on his afternoon program on ABC radio:

In March, 1999, a man living in Kandos (near Mudgee in NSW) received a
bill for his as yet unused gas line stating that he owed $0.00. He ignored it
and threw it away. In April he received another bill and threw that one
away too. The following month the gas company sent him a very nasty note stating they were going to cancel his gas line if he didn't send them
$0.00 by return mail. He called them, talked to them, and they said it
was a computer error and they would take care of it.

The following month he decided that it was about time that he tried out
the troublesome gas line figuring that if there was usage on the account
it would put an end to this ridiculous predicament.

However, when he went to use the gas, it had been cut off. He called the
gas company who apologised for the computer error once again and said
that they would take care of it. The next day he got a bill for $0.00
stating that payment was now overdue. Assuming that having spoken to
them the previous day the latest bill was yet another mistake, so he
ignored it, trusting that the company would be as good as their word and
sort the problem out.

The next month he got a bill for $0.00. This bill also stated that he
had 10 days to pay his account or the company would have to take steps
to recover the debt.

Finally, giving in, he thought he would beat the company at their own
game and mailed them a cheque for $0.00. The computer duly processed his account and returned a statement to the effect that he now owed the gas company nothing at all.

A week later, the manager of the Mudgee branch of the Westpac Banking
Corporation called our hapless friend and asked him what he was doing
writing a cheque for $0.00. After a lengthy explanation the bank manager
replied that the $0.00 cheque had caused their cheque processing
software to fail. The bank could therefore not process ANY cheques they
had received from ANY of their customers that day because the cheque for $0.00 had caused the computer to crash.

The following month the man received a letter from the gas company
claiming that his cheque has bounced and that he now owed them $0.00 and unless he sent a cheque by return mail they would take immediate steps to recover the debt. At this point, the man decided to file a debt
harassment claim against the gas company.

It took him nearly 2 hours to convince the clerks at the local
courthouse that he was not joking. They subsequently assisted him in the
drafting of statements which were considered substantive evidence of the
aggravation and difficulties he had been forced to endure during this
debacle.

The matter was heard in the Magistrate's Court in Mudgee and the outcome was this:

The gas company was ordered to:

[1] Immediately rectify their computerised accounts system or show
cause, within 10 days, why the matter should not be referred to a higher
court for consideration under Company Law.

[2] Pay the bank dishonour fees incurred by the man.

[3] Pay the bank dishonour fees incurred by all the Westpac clients
whose cheques had been bounced on the day our friend's had been.

[4] Pay the claimant's court costs; and

[5] Pay the claimant a total of $1500 per month for the 5 month period
March to July inclusive as compensation for the aggravation they had
caused their client to suffer.

And all this over $0.00.

A while back some of us were posting about the number of people not getting their cars fixed for any number of reasons. Most of the reasons boiled down to money or lack of. I mentioned that at our dealership we had the GMGoodwrench card that we could apply for online and get an approval back in less than a minute. It was & still is 90 days same as cash and can be used at any GM dealership nationwide. Once approved the customer can use it immediately for a pending purchase and does not have to wait for the card to arrive.
I received a lot of e-mails from different individuals stating that they wished they could get access to this card, because it does indeed increase our sales. Unfortunately you have to own a GM dealership.
I have been informed that the ASA is providing just such a card called CarCareOne which is basically the same thing but offers emergency roadside assistance and has your shop name embossed on the card. Members of the ASA can get these cards for their customers.
I liked the roadside assistance feature and the fact that your shop name is embossed on the card. It should encourage people to use the card to have their card towed to your shop.
You can call the ASA at 1-800-272-7467 for more info.

Farmers Adjuster Busted! Wed, 12 November 2003 20:20 Go to previous messageGo to next message
You guys will be reading more about this later on, but for now: A member of our auto body association just help bust a Farmers adjuster for fraud. The adjuster offered to charge for new but install used parts and then split the difference in parts prices. About $900. The shop owner called our association lawyer and then the police. The police came down and put a wire on him nad then got the adjuster back over for a chat to confirm how the plan was suppose to go. Police arrested him soon after leaving the shop. Check it out at:

then click on "local news" on the side bar
then click on "Access news archives"
then click on "Car Insurance Fraud"

Wasn't Farmers suppose to be trying to catch us?

IN THE OLD DAYS , QUALITY WAS THE BIGGEST EFFORT. What happened? The money ,who does what ,parts ,materials, etc. That was not a question back then so much. MONEY IS TODAY THE BIGGEST EFFORT. Sure we all want & need to make money . I think the shop owners and insurance companies ,did it to them selves. The guys on the floor in the shops , are just trying to make a living, and can't make a killing. I think this is the main reasons why there is so many problems in this business.I would like to hear your thoughts ,reply back. LOL

It is with great sadness that I must let all of you know that Lou's Mom passed away this weekend. Lou and her family were very close, so needless to say this is a very sad time for all of them.
Lou has asked that anyone that would like to, can send a card or a toy to the special Angel Trees that are around this time of year or maybe just send a small toy to any orphanage in your local area. She has asked that you do this in lieu of flowers or cards to her.
Our prayers are with you and your family, lou

I've found a company that will give you expansion
cash for your business through your current equipment
through a program they call "EARL".

You continue to use the equipment as you borrow against
it and they have low monthly payments.

You can borrow from $7500-$200,000.

Any equipment can be used as long as it has a serial number.

Let me know if you are interested. I get a finders
fee on anyone I refer.

Interior Repair Wed, 23 June 2004 02:21 Go to previous messageGo to next message
I'm new to this forum and glad I found it. Used to participate in the old DingKing forum and just about the same time they shut it down I moved from South Carolina to New York state. In SC I had my business primarily built around repairing and repainting bumpers. I also did windshield repair and interior stain removal. Since moving to Western NY I believe it's too windy and cold to do much painting outside, and I am considering interior repair as my primary. Anyone in this forum doing this?

Lexus RX 300 Tue, 29 June 2004 01:40 Go to previous messageGo to next message

Hello guys,

It is my second question to this forum, and it is always nice to come back and ask for opinions from expertises.

I have a customer who got her HID headlights stolen for her Lexus RX300. I have to get an estimate for the insurance co. and what should i include?
I asked a friend of mine who's a service rep at Lexus dealer, and he told me following,

1. 2 HID Headlights = $1,233/unit
2. Wire = $1,300.00
3. Grill
4. Molding = $20.00/unit
5. Paint for the moldings = $120.00/unit
6. Labor for wiring**

Does it sound reasonable?
How do I account that we need to intall new wiring? It would be nice if we get reimbursed for the wiring, but how can I successfully claim that the car needs new wiring installation?

Can anyone please answer this question? It'd be very much appreciated. Thanx

Auto paint "tape test" Wed, 30 June 2004 15:27 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Hello all.

I'm new and been browsing looking for some information I may need. I am having some problems with the paint on the front of my '03 Nissan Sentra peeling off the front bumper cover. This is the factory paint, no prior repairs and no impact damage on or near the affected area. Nissan had a paint inspector come out and perform a "tape test" and subsequently denied the claim even though paint did come off during the test.

My question is what is the proper procedure for the tape test and when performing it, is any paint that came off considered acceptable? I've found the standard ASTM D3359 which is the standard for testing the adhesion of coatings to metallic substrates (basically the tape test). But I can't see how that fully applies as you don't want to scratch the paint to do the test. Also, shouldn't the test area be prepped by cleaning road oils and grime from the test area to ensure consistent adhesion by the tape?

Thanks for your time.

-Chris

I wrote something similar to this 20 years ago and nothing has changed other than the rates and part prices are higher. We moan, we groan about the insurance industry, but the problem is always sitting at the front desk. #1-Important-Write a good sheet, use the P-Pages and get paid by them. #2-Pay your people well and treat them like the assett they are. #3-Quit biting the hand that feeds you, fighting gets you nowhere, the Insurance industry is your bread and butter. (Don't like it, quit fixing wrecks and start painting cars.) We are our worst enemys. The system is fair if you know how to use it. The problem is most of us are too busy complaining to look for an answer. Why cant shops organize and address these concerns? Because we are too busy sweating over the other shop getting a repair we thought we should have had. Maybe I am lucky, I could care less what the other shops around me are doing. I earned a reputation that keeps me busy. I work with the insurance companys to get a good price to repair the car to a quality precrash condition. I pay my techs well and give them excellant working conditions in a state of the art building. I MAKE A PROFIT.

Beware of What You Ask For
by Dennis Liphardt

Again Denis Lipman is speaking of something that he knows nothing about. He read the Ma. draft legislation on ins. change, and with out knowing Ma. law and how it would effect the bill, he ran his mouth off, and recommends that we accept the few bread crumbs that the insurance companies throw to us.

But for the last 7 years worked in a shop that was owned by a good owner. Than boyds group came in. All down hill from there. And i thing these big companys are going to mess up the feild bad.

Hello to any shops in Florida storm damaged areas Mon, 30 August 2004 13:51 Go to previous messageGo to next message
I'm on the east coast of Florida and now it's been a little over two weeks since Hurricane Charley. Haven't seen any postings from shops in or near the storm areas. We were lucky to have minimal problems in our area. I'm very surprised to have so little storm damaged work being brought in or even cars damaged thru the normal frazzle of hurricane prep. And I know it's terrrible to think about getting work out of this,Embarassed with the hardships others have had to endure because of Charley, but what's up? How you guys doing? Are you up and running, got power, got a roof, got work, etc? How's the insurance companies treating you on these claims? DRP's are you getting to write your own estimates on the comp damage? Talk to us Florida.

i read an article in ABRN that graded insurance co's in the state of oregon, a few shops, 30 comes to mind. they listed from the best to worst on a A+ thru D- system.....
if it could be done, it would be neet to see that done on this board, as DRP and non DRP shops participated. it would be great to see those grades from across the country and not just one state. state farm came up best and farmers came out the worst even from there DRP shops. and is farmers C.O.D program the same in all states?

"Progressive Thinks I'm a Crook Because I Made a Profit." Now making a profit by marking up a sublet bill is committing fraud. It just keeps on getting better.

Hey gang!

I'm looking for a manager/estimator position within the KC
area or surrounding areas. I am a strong writer with higher
tech hours and shop profits in mind. Love hard hits and making
sure techs and shop get paid for every operation possible. I
have been trained in "out side the box" estimate writing. Used
to work at Superior Chevrolet in Merriam Kansas. If any shop
owners/managers or techs are looking for profitable estimates
please feel free to contact me and I'll send a resume out.
Will be coming back in town for a family wedding in July.
Thanks for your time!

Bush Acknowledges Looting of Social Security Trust Fund Says Author of 'The Looting of Social Security'
Saturday February 12, 8:22 am ET

WINTER HAVEN, Fla., Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- "President Bush has finally acknowledged what I have been saying throughout his entire presidency," says economist and author Allen W. Smith. "The $1.6 trillion of Social Security surplus money, that is supposed to be in the trust fund waiting for the retirement of the baby boomers has all been spent on other government programs and replaced with worthless non-marketable government IOU's." Smith, the author of "The Looting of Social Security: How The Government Is Draining America's Retirement Account," (Carroll and Graf, 2004) has been waging an uphill battle to alert the public to the fact that Bush and his predecessors have been spending Social Security money as if it were general fund revenue, in violation of federal law. Smith also charges that President Bush is continuing to illegally spend approximately $400 million of Social Security money each and every day.
Smith was shocked when Bush on Wednesday said, "The money-payroll taxes going into the Social Security are spent. They're spent on benefits and they're spent on government programs. There is no trust." Smith thought that the truth had just accidentally slipped out when the president let down his guard and strayed from the script. But when Bush made similar statements on Thursday in both North Carolina and Pennsylvania, Smith concluded that the administration was going to begin using the empty trust fund as part of the effort to convince the public that Social Security is in crisis.

In the Pennsylvania speech, Bush said, "Every dime that goes in from payroll taxes is spent. It's spent on retirees, and if there's excess, it's spent on government programs. The only thing that Social Security has is a pile of IOUs from one part of the government to the next."

Smith said, "I have been doing everything in my power over the past four years to convince the public that Bush was illegally spending every dollar of Social Security surplus in direct violation of his many promises during the 2000 presidential campaign not to touch the Social Security money, and his solemn pledge during his State of the Union Address on February 27, 2001 'To make sure the retirement savings of America's seniors are not diverted in any other program.'"

"From my perspective," Smith continued, "President Bush clearly admitted to looting the Social Security trust fund in three separate speeches this week. I suspect that he and his advisers took a calculated risk that by revealing the ongoing looting that has taken place over the past 20 years he would have more ammunition for his current campaign to undermine Social Security. But I think he made a big political mistake. When America's workers realize that they have been the victims of the greatest fraud ever perpetrated against the American people by their government, I think there will be an angry public outcry demanding that the looting be stopped and that the money already looted be paid back to the trust fund and invested in marketable Treasury bonds. If that is done, Social Security will then be able to pay full benefits until 2042."

I have required the service of both of those fields. In both instances , they pulled out a company supplied folder with laminated pages that listed the operation in DOLLAR amounts not LABOR UNITS. This price included the price of part and the labor. A common example in the HVAC field would be $250 to change out a blower motor in a furnace. It would list the part as $50 and the rest as labor. At $70 an hour that would be almost a 3 hour operation, yet it took actually an hour. It's funny when using THEIR COMPANY GUIDE , how long it would take them to tell you what their labor rate was. Either the techs who were paid hourly were naive to the whole flat rate system or they knew I was on to them. Either way, it's funny how only the automotive sector gets all the negative press.

Any one in the mid-west familiar with this company. I have heard nothing but good news about them. I want to move back to the midwest, and was wondering if anybody knows anything. I understand they are about to open a super body shop in the KC area.

Propane consumption Tue, 15 March 2005 15:03 Go to previous messageGo to next message
I just finished having a 1000 gallon propane tank put in for my booth. I believe the burner is 1.2 million BTU. Natural gas and oil weren't options for me. Realistically, for guys that use theirs every day, how often do you have your tank refilled?

I know production, frequency of use, and climate are going to fluctuate the consumption considerably, but are there any rough numbers on how far you go on each tank?

I am trying to job cost the use of it per car, and I'm hoping somebody has some estimates. If not its cool.

NEW PROGRESSIVE SLICK ONE Sat, 26 March 2005 16:38 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Had one of my customers get hit by a Digressive victim policy holder---luckily my guy's own company rose to the occasion to handle the claim and subrogate Digress- When my customer called to inform me that Digress had sent already sent (2 to 3 days)him a check, I told him that something is obviously wrong, due to the usual fight and whine they put up in efforts to skate a claim. I was right, The old fellow pulled out the check from his company, fine, then takes the Digress check the rest of the way out of it's envelope, to find the damm thing is NOT SIGNED!!!

He looked at me somewhat stunned and said, you were right, they are a real piece of work just as you said they would be...

I had a nice chat with the dipding that sent that useless check. That was to merely keep fresh in their ingrained minds just how low, cheap and CAPA thay are---I guess that is why any time one of my people inform them that their vehicle is in our shop for repairs they are informed that A. I am invariably two weeks behind, B.they have had difficulty with me, C.They will put their lein holder on their check---Doesn't work, call them down in the middle of the scam and they fold---And D. They have 150 shops in our area that 'work' with them-----Maybe that is why it took seven hours of one of our tow trucks dragging a Digressive insured all over town to have six shops refuse a Digressive job, the seventh one finally did..Nice tow bill!! 168 miles and an hour and a half wait time!!Keep up the good work boys!!!The owner was just astounded that her coverage was so questionable that we would not get involved either----

new look ay Decree Of 1963?? Sat, 26 March 2005 17:11 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Just what did happen to that decree anyway-Glad one us brought this thought up- It is an interesting document---Dealers were to give 25 off on parts---independent adjusters were to be just that--INDEPENDENT- flat rate manuals were to be out of the picture repairers were to be left to do their work and be paid for it!

Saturn gives us a flat 15 off- Company adjusters threaten insured with the phrase--"that is all you get because some cheapshot shop will fix it for that", Companies are trying to do the dictating--and all of the other decreed illegal stuff is still hapening.....

We, as the repairer, are end responsible and liable for the saftey and quality of our product, as p-poorly supported with repair information and method by the automakers as it is...

We would have difficulty in a court of law explaining to a jury of 12 dummies who were not bright enough to skate jury duty. We did not replace an airbag sensor and killed someone because a 21 year old company adjuster knew more than we did, refusing our experienced and behind the 8-ball input- Scary hypothetical but entirely possible situation isn't it----???

I'm Still a newcomer to this board but it looks like a few strong messangers only speak.

It's a big (dog eat dog) world out there and times are changing...

Makes you wonder how things will be in the future, are the old adjusters going to put uniforms on and try to save it, or will the cars start fixing themselves?

It can only go so far....

Hello look at the stats, Good Techs (hard to find) are getting out because they are not dumb. After all this is a skilled trade. (forgotten?) Much more than say carpenter/plumber/electrician. Upgraded skills each year for auto body. But again Insurance Stronghold.

Preaching to the choir?
I'm sure I am to the ones that are listening.

My prediction...
Look at your estimates, Insurance companies are beginning to follow acts of Progressive (set low ball estimates for cheap rates) in due time.

Where are you and your shop...
Will they give in? Keep in mind..

Volume makes them, (Prefferd list) Job detailed quality cost estimates make the tech and the customer.

So, Where are you again?

Think about it....(hint..More work for less money)

Conclusion...should you be a slave to the trade?

P.S. Good luck finding techs in the future, (i.e. more money in driving trucks. etc)
